Dr Dew Memorial Tournament report
Fourteen sides spent a glorious bank holiday Monday playing 6 – a – side cricket in the annual Dr John Dew memorial tournament at Horsham cricket club.
Almost 120 children, mostly under 10 years of age, played an active part in the tournament which comprised over 30 matches on four pitches each match consisting of six overs per side per innings. Matches started at 10am and the final, won by Lindfield, finished just before 5pm. The runners up were Southwater and Lingfield came out on top of the third/fourth play-off match against Horsham.
Hugh Thomas, President of Horsham Cricket Club, presented the trophy after commenting on how pleased the late Dr John Dew would have been to see so many children, including his own granddaughter and grandson, enjoy a days cricket in idyllic surroundings bathed in sunshine.
