The “American” mixed doubles tournament successfully took place last Saturday to mark the opening of the grass courts with 32 members taking part. As luck would have it, there were 16 ladies and 16 gents!

After the first three matches everyone enjoyed a well earnt tea break along with a whole selection of cakes and biscuits, and even a tub of strawberries – all very British!

After the final three matches, the scores were totted up resulting in Leon Martin winning the gents’ first prize with Nigel Harvey as the runner-up, and Vicky Araujo winning the ladies’ first prize with Lisa Eatwell as the runner-up – well done to all of them!  In addition, the star prize draw was won by Roger who went away with a Wimbledon 2023 tennis bag!!

Thank you to all those who took part making the event a very enjoyable afternoon of grass (and hard) court tennis and raising some extra funds for the Tennis section.

And finally, thank you to the ground staff who have a done a great job in preparing the grass courts for this Summer season and making the tournament possible.
